States generally require a birth certificate to obtain a marriage license. If you have
previously married, they will also require proof of the dissolution of your first marriage, as well. That usually involves in the case of a
divorce, the transcript of a divorce proceedings, or if one of the bridal couple is a widow or widower, a death certificate for the deceased spouse.
Since these certificates can take time to obtain, it is wise to start early.
Some states are capable of filling an online order for a birth certificate. In others,
you must send in your request, along with a check or money order, for a copy of your certificate. We have attempted to list the most recent data
for you.
In addition, you may contact several agencies who will obtain your certificate for you.
